Greeted by strains of club music and stylistas sporting wild chunks of hair color, the Indra newcomer may fear she’s crashing a too-hip party. But this decade-old Aveda salon is a pro at putting clients at ease, be it with a neck rub or glass of wine. Consequently, it has a lot of them: thirtysomethings, dads with kids in tow, prep schoolers, mothers-in-law. There are 30-plus snippers on staff, so odds are good someone here will “get” your hair.

Something Blue

April and Jose say, "Our inspiration came from the classic saying, 'Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.' We integrated vintage earrings, new trend feather lashes, a borrowed wedding gown and had our fantasy bride pop out of this eye-catching blue backdrop."

Owners April Graffeo and Jose Bastistine enjoyed a successful 2007, increasing their salon's business by 64% during its 10th anniversary year. Indra recieved numerous recognitions including, Northshore's BONS award, Modern Salon "Fastest Growing Salons in America" and Salon Today, "Best Style."

Green Beauty - Salons Go Green

April Lyn Graffeo, owner of Indra Salon and Day Spa, in Andover, Massachusetts, says, "We use all plant- and flower-derived products. For our guests and staff, we list ways they can help the environment in their own home in our restrooms. We also do simple things like instructing the staff to shut lights off that are not being used and save the backbar products so we may refill instead of repurchasing them. This saves our company money as well as our environment.

Round Table

The spa service in our salon that gets the best reviews is our Eyelash Extensions. Not only does our guest lie down and relax for two hours with a hand treatment and deep conditioner on their hair, but they leave with a full set of fantastic thick, long lashes.

Best Style

To maintain our salon as a center for style in the community, our staff regularly attends Portfolio Trends, a fashion-centered class, showing new hair and make-up trends. We also e-mail our guests with this information to keep them updated, along with displaying new trend videos on flat screen monitors throughout the salon. We have set guidelines for current fashion, and each season the dress code is changed to accomodate the newest and hottest trends.
